Year Five:

Throughout the week, children will be taught by Miss Higham and Mrs Hunter.

Learning Environment:

The Year Five classroom is located at the top of the Junior Corridor and provides a welcoming and engaging space for learning. The environment is designed to support a wide range of approaches, from small, adult-led groups and lively discussions to independent learning, questioning, and interactive whole-class activities.

Interactive displays and helpful visual prompts create an inspiring atmosphere and ensure that children can access resources whenever they need them. Our classroom is a place where curiosity, creativity, and collaboration are encouraged, helping every child to feel confident and motivated in their learning.

Our Curriculum:

English and Mathematics are taught almost every day and are frequently integrated into other areas of learning. Lessons are delivered through both practical and written activities, with the aim of ensuring all children achieve the expected standard and are encouraged to progress beyond it.

Our English curriculum is centred on carefully selected texts, prose, and poetry. These not only engage pupils as readers but also provide meaningful opportunities to develop grammar, punctuation, spelling, and an understanding of how writers communicate effectively with their audience.

Across the wider curriculum, pupils learn through a broad range of subjects, including History, Geography, Science, Art, and Design Technology. Learning is enriched through hands-on activities such as fieldwork, research, interviews, and educational visits, all of which deepen understanding and bring each subject to life.

Our Year Five curriculum plan provides a clear overview of the topics studied throughout the year. If you are able to contribute resources, expertise, or connections within these areas, we would warmly welcome your involvement. We greatly value the opportunity to work with our community to enhance and enrich the learning experiences we provide in school.

Weekly Information:

PE is taught twice a week, and children are expected to have their PE kit in school at all times. We will notify you in advance when swimming lessons are scheduled, so that a swimming kit can be provided.

Each week, pupils take part in spelling and arithmetic tests. These are designed to strengthen memory and recall, as retrieving information regularly helps embed it more securely. Revising key facts at home will support your child’s preparation for the week ahead.

Homework is sent home every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.

To keep you connected with all the fun, learning, collaboration, and adventures happening in Year Five, we use SeeSaw as a platform to share updates and celebrate achievements throughout the year.
