VE Day 80th Celebrations
Last week, we came together as a school to celebrate VE Day – a very important day in British history that marks the end of World War II in Europe on May 8th, 1945. It was a chance for us to remember and give thanks to all those who helped bring peace to the world.
We started the day with a special VE Day assembly. The hall was filled with the union jack colours as the children all wore red, white and blue. We were reminded what VE Day means and why it’s important. We listened to stories from the 1940s and heard accounts from people who were alive when the war in Europe ended. They talked about how people celebrated across the UK when the war ended.
The sun came out just in time for a wonderful outdoor lunch! The playground was decorated with Union Jack bunting and VE Day flags, and everyone enjoyed their food while sitting at tables outside. There was a lovely community feeling, with lots of smiles, and music playing. It really felt like a street party from the past!
At midday, we all paused for a moment of silence to remember those who served and those who lost their lives during the war. It was a quiet and respectful time to think about the bravery and sacrifices made by so many.
It was a fun and thoughtful day that helped us understand the importance of peace, remembrance, and coming together as a school community.
Thank you to all the staff who helped organise the celebration – and well done to all the children for making it such a special day!
