Sydney the Subtraction Snake

Sydney the Subtraction Snake has been visiting our Foundation Unit this week. He has been to different schools within St Helens, helping children to learn more about subtraction. Look at the amazing things he has been doing at Garswood! The children have been using lots of different methods to help with their subtraction calculations. Can you spot our blocks snakes, mud snakes, mud print snakes, workshop snakes, forest school snakes and jungle snakes.

Sydney found some baby snakes in our school and decided to adopt them. They helped us to calculate using larger numbers. We used numbers lines to aid our understanding and recorded different calculations independently. Some children even learned about negative numbers! What fantastic problem solving and language development in Reception and Nursery!
