Owl detectives!

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 3 Year: 2014 - 2015

In science we have been learning about digestion and food webs.  Today the children had the exciting opportunity to be owl detectives!  Using barn owl pellets from the local area, the children dissected these to discover what the owl had eaten.  They found a variety of bones from animals such as moles, shrews, rodents and birds.  In our numeracy session the children used bone charts to identify the exact bone and animals - they recorded their results on tally charts which will be used to create graphs later in the week.  In literacy the children wrote about their investigation using scientific vocabulary.  We will continue to learn about these amazing creatures during the rest of the week - watch this space!
