During our forest school sessions, Y2 have been asking questions about joining twigs and branches together.  Last week I gave them a challenge to make a frame using 4 straight sticks - they found this tricky.  This week we discussed how the sticks could be joined and some children mentioned using knots so I showed them a clove hitch to attach the string and then square lashing to join 2 sticks together.  The children helped eachother to try out the new knots they had learnt and tried them out on sticks outside in our forest school area.
