Forest Schools

We are always looking for ways to improve. This year we have decided that we want to support the children in developing their resourcefulness, resilience and practical application of skills. Forest Schools is the perfect initiative.

Miss Jenkinson, works across our school in different classes covering for teachers when they have their statutory planning, preparation and assessment time. She is ideally placed to impact - bringing forest schools into our school across all ages.

Miss Jenkinson has already attended a week long training course and a two day forest school first aid and paediatric first aid training.

With all this expertise we've been keen to get going.

Year 4 class have been the first to get stuck in and have been learning about different types of wood and how to join them with different knots. It has been a real hit with the children and a great start to our Forest School. We are working with the children to ensure we have a designated space in the grounds for Forest School activities with room for a fire pit and shelter building. As the children progress through the school they will learn to use tools, make shelters and build fires.

Exciting times ahead! Watch this space.

In the meantime here are some images of Y4 on Garswood's first Forest School activity.
