Edol in British Food Fortnight

Across the school we took the opportunity to celebrate British Food Fortnight and European Day of Languages this week. Buying from a British Larder we cooked traditional meals from countries across Europe. This was a perfect way to also address the food objectives in the design and technology curriculum, learning important food and cooking knowledge. We also took the opportunity to learn some words from different languages.

British Food Fortnight campaign is THE opportunity for everyone to come together and promote the benefits of buying and eating from our home-produced British larder. British Food Fortnight always takes place over the last week of September and the first week of October giving caterers and retailers specific dates to concentrate their efforts for promotions. Find out more about it here... http://www.lovebritishfood.co.uk/

Europe is rich in languages - there are over 200 European languages and many more spoken by citizens whose family origin is from other continents. This is an important resource to be recognised, used and cherished.

Language learning brings benefits to young and old - you are never too old to learn a language and to enjoy the opportunities it opens up. Even if you only know a few words of the language of the country that you visit (for example on holiday), this enables you to make new friends and contacts.

Learning other peoples' languages is a way of helping us to understand each other better and overcome our cultural differences.

We had a great time!
