Remembrance

Year 4, 5 and Year 6 primary school children from across the borough paid their respects on Remembrance Day by attending a commemorative event at Lowe House Church.

Pupils from Garswood were joined by pupils from St.John Vianney, Eaves, Carr Mill, Robins Lane, Newton, Merton Bank. Queens Park, Ashurst and St.Thomas of Canterbury who all took part in the service which involved the children reading out a collection of their own poems, letters from the trenches, prayers - and a dance performance which covered key moments from both world wars and modern day conflicts.

St Helens Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Councillor Jeanette Banks, praised the children for showing a mature and creative attitude to mark a solemn occasion.

She said: "It is important that historic events aren't forgotten among young people and that was certainly evident today".

"You can tell from the poems, letters, prayers and dance that the children have been working on in school that they have a sincere interest in the subject".
