Letters will be sent home advertising the clubs and the age groups they are open to at the beginning of each term.

Clubs normally take place either at lunchtime or after school.

We have entered numerous competitive sports events and our team show excellent sportsmanship.

We also host an annual Sports Day with traditional races as well as team based activities.

There are many pages dedicated to sport at Garswood on our website. Here are just a few of them!

Garswood Primary offers a wide and varied programme of extra-curricular activities designed to give pupils opportunities to develop new skills, interests, confidence and leadership beyond the classroom.

This includes sporting activities such as judo, fencing, rugby, football, martial arts, archery and running, alongside creative and cultural opportunities.

The range of activities is regularly reviewed and updated, with parents encouraged to contact the school office for current club information.

Garswood Sports Crew and Competitons

We are extremely proud of all our children's sporting achievements at Garswood.

In order to support pupils in learning through sport we run a wide ranging matrix of competitions and events for all age groups and abilities.

All of our children who compete and represent our school do so with great enthusiasm and dedication.

We love to celebrate participation and subsequent successes in sport.

Our children are encouraged to play an active role in the celebration of sport and PE as well as its delivery. Our Year 6 pupils are fully trained as 'Bs Buddies' through the PATHS initiative and work every day during lunchtimes to support the younger children in their play. This encourages them to become enthusiastic and knowledgeable sports leaders.

Our PE ambassadors meet each term to discuss sport and PE in school and possible next steps to further develop the curriculum and our sporting offer.

Bike It Breakfast

On certain days during the year we have a 'Bike It Breakfast'  where children and adults come to school on their bikes.  For those that do we have a breakfast waiting for them and a place to store their bikes.

Not only is this an environmental initiative but has the added benefit of helping children to keep fit and healthy by taking part in exercise.

Children come into school energised, excited and ready to learn.

We built a bike shelter at the front of the school to encourage this healthy approach to start the day!

Swimming

Swimming is such an important skill to learn. We take children to swimming lessons throughout the year and offer additional sessions for those children who are less confident around water!

We aim for all our children to be confident at swimming by the time they leave school and our school swimming attainment is displayed as part of our Sports Premium Strategy.

We also know the importance of teaching water safety so our children are also safe in water when away from school.

Network

Garswood School is also in a network with 12 other schools.

The PE leads meet half termly and plan network competitions and share expertise and skills.

This enhances our provision and supports schools across St Helens in doing the same.
