School Cook says Farewell

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Garswood woman who has retired after dedicating 37 years of her working life to the same school.

Maureen Maxwell stepped down shortly before the Christmas break.

She held a string of roles at Garswood Primary School and was most recently the school’s head cook.

Mrs Maxwell plans to use her retirement to spend more time with her family and is planning plenty of long walks with her dogs!

Headteacher Pamela Potter said: “Maureen is always keen to do her best for the children and gave more than was asked of her.

“I can’t thank her enough for all her hard work over the years.

“One of the many things Maureen will be remembered for is her harvest loaf that she made every year, with a bread mouse hiding in the bread sheaf of wheat. All the children were excited to spot it.

“The bread was then cut into 230 pieces for all the staff and children to share. This was symbolic to her pivotal part in the Garswood Primary School family.”
