Our First Half-Term in Nursery.
Class: Nursery Year: 2016 - 2017
Our First Half Term
Our Nursery children have settled into school wonderfully well and are enjoying making lots of new friends. It’s fantastic to see some children already developing their independence by finding their own peg and tray, and organising their belongings by themselves – Well Done!
Topics
We have been exploring colour and texture and have had great fun experimenting with colour mixing, linked to our Elmer the Elephant topic.
We’ve also been making our own self-portraits using a range of different media and materials and discussing what makes each of us special and unique.
Phonics
We have short phonics sessions every day where we play around with rhyme and alliteration as well as listening to the sounds we can hear in words.
We introduce a new sound each week and this half term children have been learning to recognise the letters:
s, a, t, p and i
We’ve had lots of lovely comments from parents who have noticed their children being ‘Letter Detectives’ at home too.
Do you have any of our letters hiding around your home? (remember we use the sound the letter makes not the letter name!
Maths
We have been matching colours, reciting number names in order and carefully counting objects by saying one number name for each item.
We’ve also been looking at the 2D shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle and hexagon.
Reminders
Please remember if you choose to send grapes as part of a packed lunch they must be cut into quarters.
Please ensure your child has a pair of wellies in school to ensure they can fully access our outdoor area!
