No Outsiders

Lesson: PSHE and citizenship

Class: Year 3 Year: 2023 - 2024

In Year 3, the children were introduced to the book, 'This is our house.' by Michael Rosen.  The children listened attentively to the story, and discussed how George was not being kind. We discussed how the other children might feel.  We also said the mantra, 'No Outsiders, everyone's different, everyone's welcome.'  The children discussed how we are all unique and different but we should all be included in everything, one child said, 'Everyone's welcome in our school and in Year 3.'

Once we had finished reading the story I asked the children to write on their sticky labels, something that makes them different to others. We engaged in role play and every now and then, we would stop and remind ourselves of the mantra together, 'No Outsiders, everyone's different, everyone's welcome.'

The children discussed how they all liked football, glasses, blue eyes and the children all agreed that everyone is different but there are similarities that we can find. No matter what though - we are all very welcome in our Y3 class.
