Longest femur, biggest jump?

Lesson: Science

Wednesday 23rd February 2023

Year 3 have been investigating whether there is a scientific correlation between who has the biggest femur and who has the biggest jump.  We designed an experiment in which they ensured the following things were investigated….

Question to investigate:

Can people with longer femurs jump further?

As a class….

We decided what we would need to do first:

For this investigation, we needed to measure the length of people's femurs first so that we could then compare them.

We thought about what equipment we would use:

Equipment:

  • Metre stick and chalk
  • We planned how to make

    our test fair

  • We thought about the following things…

What are we changing in our investigation?

·      We are changing the length of the femur
(so the person jumping) every time.

What are we measuring in our investigation?

·      We are measuring the length each
person jumps. (Same person)

·      We are measuring the

length of each person’s

femur. (Same person)

What are we going to keep the same each time we do the investigation?

·      We are keeping these things the same:

·      Ground being jumped on

·      Way to take off for the jump

·      Type of clothing and footwear worn

·      The points the jump is measured from and to

·      Weather conditions
