Children lead the way

School life is really gearing up and there are plenty of opportunities to see our children living out the school core values to 'be kind, be ambitious and be respectful'.

This week has seen our Y5 and Y6 Junior Road Safety Officers host our Cycle to School week. They came up with the plan for the week which included their Road Safety Assembly; Be Bright, Be Seen event; Road Safety poster competition and ending the day with our Bike It Breakfast. Over 100 children joined us with their family to start the day in a healthy way - ride to school and tuck into a healthy breakfast. Our Junior Road Safety Officers coordinated the whole event and what a success. I look forward to their next event!

We've also awarded our JRSO team with their own badges. They were presented to them in assembly from Cllr Murphy, our Chair of Governors. She also got to award the winners of the Road Safety Posters with their prizes and congratulate the class who had the most cyclists across the week - congratulations Year 4! It was a tough job for the JRSOs to choose the winning posters - they were excellent. Well done to everyone who entered.

This week Cllr Murphy also awarded our School Council and Eco-Council with their badges. School Council have already made a start on their important work - meeting every day this week to evaluate the playground resources and update them. They've consulted in their classes and next week, I'm sure the children will look forward to exploring the new playground activities.

Our new shop team for Garsmart have started their work to increase sales. We had the pleasure of meeting their new mascot 'Billy Banana' as they set up their loyalty programme for those who buy their playtime snack from this healthy shop for KS2 children.

We are delighted that we have so many opportunities for our children to take on leadership roles and additional responsibilities. We will soon be re-launching our curriculum teams for the year and we can't wait to hear again from our Garswood Internet Safety Team.

How lucky we are to have our children leading the way.
